Cleaning a file does not remove a watermark. Invisible marks such as Google's SynthID are encoded into the pixels themselves, so they survive metadata stripping, format conversion, and screenshotting entirely. Frequently asked questions
- Does this remove all my metadata, or only the AI parts?
- Only the AI parts, by default. It removes C2PA Content Credentials, the IPTC DigitalSourceType label, generation parameters, and generator names, while leaving camera settings, copyright, GPS, and the color profile in place. A second mode is available if you do want everything gone.
- Will this affect image quality?
- Not in the default AI-only mode. JPEG, PNG, and WEBP files are edited at the container level, so the compressed pixel data is copied across byte for byte and nothing is re-encoded. The "all metadata" mode does re-encode, which changes file size and pixel bytes slightly.
- Does this remove C2PA Content Credentials?
- Yes. The C2PA manifest lives in a dedicated container (an APP11 segment in JPEG, a caBX chunk in PNG, a C2PA chunk in WebP), and that container is dropped entirely. Note that a signature is also invalidated by any edit, so a re-encoded image shows as unverified even when the manifest is left in place.
- Which formats can be cleaned without re-encoding?
- JPEG, PNG, and WEBP. AVIF cannot currently be edited in place, so those files fall back to a full re-encode that removes all metadata; the tool tells you when that happens.
